What do Orlando Jones and Universal FanCon Want You to Demand?

Orlando Jones #Activate4Autism

Actor Orlando Jones and the Universal FanCon have joined the #Activate4Autism movement calling people to:

  • Speak out against bullying
  • Speak up when something happens
  • Speak out for inclusion

Orlando’s on screen charisma, integrity and wit are the perfect combination for delivering a message that people will listen to and act upon. He’s a strong voice on so many pop-culture platforms in film, television and digital media.

Did you see him as “Captain Frank Irving” on Sleepy Hollow? Or how about as “Mr. Nancy (aka the god Anansi) in the television version of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods? Or maybe it was his Comedy Central special in Johannesburg, South Africa? My point is he’s doing work that’s interesting, provocative and gets attention. And, as MTV calls him, this “King of Fandoms” engages with audiences in ways that can transform their thinking about marginalized and stereotyped groups, including those on the autism spectrum.

His #Activate4Autism message continues…

Yes, Orlando, yes! He makes me believe we can demand a world that believes:

  • We’re all special
  • We’re all cool
  • We’re all interesting
  • We all have the same rights!

Orlando and other believers in the power of diversity, acceptance and inclusion in all forms are coming together at the Universal FanCon in April 2018. Like Geek Club Books, Universal FanCon understands the power of stories and how they can truly bring about the changes we desperately need in the world.

Geek is universal. Through our differences we are united and an example of positivity, diversity, and hope.

The Universal FanCon is the first multi-fandom Con dedicated to inclusion, highlighting women, LGBTQ, persons of color, those with disabilities and autism. Their goal is that everyone see themselves represented in the genres they love—from anime, comics, gaming, movies and television.

“In a world where being different is too often seen as flaw, our tolerance and acceptance for all things geekdom is an undeniable force for good. In a time where casting labels is easy, we are the seekers of truth.”

May we ALL live long (without labels and discrimination) and (have equal opportunity to) prosper!
