Register for the next Spectrum webinar, featuring Laurent Mottron, professor of psychiatry at the University of Montreal in Canada. He will discuss his June 2021 commentary in Autism Research on why we need “a radical change in our autism research strategy.” He says that because autism diagnosis is based on “vague criteria,” studies currently use participants who may share only a “trivial resemblance” to one another, which may lead to inaccurate study results. Experienced clinicians should choose research participants who are “more representative of the ‘prototype’ of autism,” Mottron says.
