ROLE OF ALEX RAMIREZ: can play the role of 30s – late 40s. Neurodiverse.
Alex has autism spectrum disorder, and is brought by their mother, Grace, to see Dr.
Frome at New Amsterdam. After the recent death of their long-time therapist, Alex has
had some setbacks. They need to find a new therapist, but they have been resistant to
change after being treated successfully by their previous therapist for so many years.
Alex is high functioning and has created an independent life for themselves – they have
a partner, a job, a social life and weekly poker games – and their mother is worried that
all the progress they’ve made may be in jeopardy if something doesn’t change.
