The Art of Autism joins art organizations across the United States in celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM). Thirty years ago, NAHM was launched by Americans for the Arts as National Arts Week in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the National Endowment for the Arts. The Americans for the Arts is encouraging participation this month in the following ways (from their website):
FOCUSING on the arts at local, state, and national levels;
ENCOURAGING individuals and organizations to participate in the arts;
ALLOWING governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
RAISING public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.
Autistic artists can be part of this initiative by sharing your art and using the hashtag #showyourart and tagging @americans4arts and @artautism. Here is the initiative and what to share each day.

The first gallery we’d like to feature is our gallery of abstract art. It is a myth that autistic people can’t think in abstract ways.
